Thought for the Week
Six Nations rugby is back this weekend and despite a disappointing World Cup for the Home nations, it promises to be another memorable competition. Most of us will – I suppose – need to be content with watching it on the television and we will enjoy it. But being there is different.
I recall the first time I took the children to a live Rugby match in Liverpool. It was at Waterloo. Up close, down by the touchline, it was the size of the players that made an impression.
Giants. Immense, some of them. So much bigger when you see them close up!
This week I found myself thinking about the Christian ‘giants’ that I have encountered along the way. They too, look different close up. Some of them have been giants in the pulpit; some have been prayer giants (Oh how I love to hear prayer giants pray); some have been giants of compassion, and service, and patience and wisdom. Grace-filled all of them: living so close to the company of Jesus, it seems he robbed off on them!
This week, each day, give thanks to God for a ‘Christian giant’ who has enriched your life and faith. Spend a moment to recall a different one each day. My guess is that in remembering them, you will find them blessing you all over again.
